Effingham County voters will head to the polls again on Tuesday, June 16 to finalize candidates in a variety of races. Both Republican and Democrat candidates are on the ballots. Winners in this runoff will face off inthe November General Election.
Yes, it’s important to vote this time.
Several “top ticket” races are yet to be decided: the Republican nominees for Governor, Lt. Governor, US Senate, State Superintendent of Schools; also, Georgia Secretary of State and Public Service Commissioner District 5.
The Democrats have to decide on their nominee for: Lt. Governor, Georgia Secretary of State, Commissioner of Insurance, Commission of Labor, and US House of Representatives for District 1.
For the 38,688 Effingham County voters (77.38%) who stayed home rather than vote in the May 19 primary, you can vote in the runoff election and choose either party’s ballot. If you voted in the primary, you should also vote in the runoff.
Important dates to remember
June 8-12
Early in-person voting at the Effingham County Elections office, 284 Hwy. 119 S., Springfield, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no Saturday voting this time. Be sure to bring a government-issued ID with you.
June 16 — Election Day
You must vote at your assigned polling location. Polls are open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. If you are in line before 7 p.m. ,your polling location must remain open until everyone in line has voted. There is no voting at the elections office on Election Day.
