EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Community engagement was on full display as residents gathered at the Effingham College & Career Academy for an OpenAI community open house focused on the proposed data center project in Effingham County. The event provided local citizens with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and engage directly with representatives from OpenAI, local government, public safety, education, and community organizations.
The evening drew an impressive turnout, demonstrating the community’s interest in understanding the proposed development and its potential impact on Effingham County. Residents took advantage of the opportunity to ask thoughtful questions and gather information, creating an atmosphere centered on transparency, education, and open dialogue.
OpenAI had numerous representatives available throughout the event to meet with attendees, explain the project, and address questions. Their professionalism, patience, and willingness to engage with residents helped foster productive conversations and provided valuable insight into the company’s vision for the proposed facility.
Also participating were representatives from the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority, Effingham County staff, and the Effingham County Board of Commissioners, who were available to discuss the county’s role in the project and answer questions regarding local planning and economic development.
Additional organizations represented at the event included Georgia Power, the Effingham County School District. Their participation allowed residents to ask questions related to infrastructure in regards to poweringh the data center and education. A collaborative effort involved in evaluating a major development project.
Representatives from T.E.N.N. (The Effingham Nonprofit Network) were also in attendance, reflecting the interest of local nonprofit organizations in understanding the project’s potential effects on the broader community.
Throughout the evening, one theme remained consistent: community involvement. Residents, nonprofit leaders, educators, elected officials, public safety personnel, and business representatives all came together with a shared goal of learning more about the proposed data center and participating in an open, respectful exchange of information.
