While open houses have already given families a chance to meet teachers and explore their schools, the first day of classes for students is Wednesday, August 5, 2026. What Parents Should Know
📚 School Supply Lists
Parents should confirm that students have all required school supplies before the first day. Supply lists are available through the Effingham County School District’s Back-to-School webpage.
🚌 Bus Transportation
Transportation routes have been finalized and are available through the district’s transportation resources and the My Ride app. Families are encouraged to verify pickup and drop-off times before the first morning of school.
📱 New Bell-to-Bell Cell Phone Law
This school year brings continued implementation of Georgia’s “Bell-to-Bell” personal electronics policy. Students are expected to keep personal electronic devices—including cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and similar devices—put away during the instructional day, from the first bell until dismissal. The goal is to minimize distractions and maximize classroom learning.
💉 Immunizations
District officials remind families that students with expired immunization certificates cannot attend school until updated records are submitted. Parents should verify immunization status with their healthcare provider or the local health department if needed.
🍎 School Meals
Applications for free or reduced-price meals, lunch account information, and school menus are available through the district’s online resources. Families are encouraged to complete meal applications as early as possible if they qualify.
