EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. — Families across Effingham County are invited to mark their calendars for one of the community’s most anticipated family events of the year as the annual Touch-A-Truck returns on Saturday, August 8, at the Clarence E. Morgan Complex.
The event promises an exciting morning filled with family fun, community engagement, and an opportunity to celebrate an important milestone for public safety in Effingham County.
The day begins with a Quiet Hour from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., providing a sensory-friendly environment for children and individuals who may be sensitive to loud noises such as sirens, air horns, and heavy equipment. During this special hour, families can comfortably explore the vehicles and interact with first responders and operators in a calmer setting.
At 10:00 a.m., county officials will officially celebrate the grand opening of the Effingham County Emergency Management Agency’s new Emergency Operations Center (EOC) with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The new Emergency Operations Center represents a significant investment in the county’s emergency preparedness and public safety infrastructure. The facility will serve as the central command hub for coordinating emergency response efforts during hurricanes, severe weather events, public safety incidents, and other emergencies that impact Effingham County residents. The new center strengthens the county’s ability to respond quickly, efficiently, and collaboratively when emergencies arise.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Touch-A-Truck will continue until 12:00 p.m., offering children and families the chance to get an up-close look at an impressive lineup of vehicles from local public safety agencies, utilities, and heavy equipment operators.
Visitors will have the opportunity to climb aboard fire engines, law enforcement vehicles, construction equipment, utility trucks, and other specialized vehicles while meeting the dedicated professionals who operate them every day to serve the community.
Families can also cool off in the popular Effingham County Fire Rescue sprinkler zone, making it the perfect way to beat the summer heat while children enjoy a safe and memorable experience. Local food vendors will also be on-site serving a variety of refreshments and treats throughout the event.
